Full Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate

Full Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate

When you first get into the world of CBD, the terms can be a little confusing. The first thing you should know is that there are three main types of CBD. First is full spectrum CBD which is an extract that contains other parts of the cannabis plant such as terpenes and cannabinoids and contains nearly undetectable amounts THC in a product. Second, CBD isolate is the pure form of CBD. The third type is broad spectrum CBD which is similar to full spectrum in that it contains other terpenes and cannabinoids as well but is almost entirely free of THC. Each type of CBD has a purpose and can help you depending on your needs.

Full Spectrum and CBD Isolate Differences

Full-spectrum CBD products could potentially contain up to 0.3% THC, though it isn’t enough to have any effect on you when it’s in the CBD product. CBD isolate is pure CBD and contains no other plant compounds and is a crystal form of CBD. The extraction process for these two are similar in the way they both involve carbon dioxide extraction, steam distillation, solvent extraction, and lipid extraction. CBD isolate however, is more refined and goes through extra processing.

Benefits

CBD isolate being the purest form of CBD is the best place to start for first-time CBD users who are wanting to experiment with the potential health benefits without other cannabinoids interfering. During a 2015 study, it was found that even though CBD isolate may offer potential benefits, the effects may be less notable than when using a full spectrum CBD product¹. Researchers found that because full spectrum CBD has other components deriving from the cannabis plant, users benefit from something called the “entourage effect”, and the higher dosage the more effects are felt. Users reported using full-spectrum CBD to help with inflammation, antioxidant, and even muscle spasm relief.

Remember that before you use CBD in any form, talk with your doctor to make sure it’s right for you and your lifestyle. The best thing to do is start with a lower dosage of whichever product you choose and work your way up until you find a spot you are comfortable with.
